Brass Shiva Damaru

30.00

∆ Damaru is strongly associated with the God Shiva and sadhus. This damru is a small two-headed pellet drum, made from Brass with leather drum heads.Damru is a small hourglass shaped drum, and is particularly associated with Shiva in his aspect as the Nataraja, performing the cosmic dance of tandava. The drum itself is thought to perfectly balance Lingam and Yoni, male and female.  One legend has it that the sounds of the Sanskrit language arose from Shiva's drumbeats, played on the damaru, also spelled "damru". The sound of damru represents the primeval sound and the rhythm from which, according to cosmology, the universe emerges and in which it dissolves into, before re-emerging again.
